Administrative Support – 5 (AS5) Edmonton

We are looking for a higher level Administrative Support to work for the Government of Alberta.  This is a temporary position for 3 months (possibly longer) applicants must be able to commit for a longer term position.

The individual will assist with the Persons with Developmental Disabilities, Protection for Persons in Care, Family Support for Children with Disabilities and Child Youth and Family Enhancement appeals.  The person will provide support to the appeals being scheduled in locations across the province and will be working out of the Edmonton office, located downtown.

The ideal candidate requires strong computer skills as they will work with the AIMS database, SharePoint site, Word, Exclaim, ARTS, etc.  They also need excellent interpersonal skills as they will be dealing with department representatives and panel members who are appointed by the Minister as well as appellants who have applied for services/funding, are appealing Protection for Persons in Care investigation recommendations or child placement decisions.  This position requires the ability to be diplomatic and have discretion, as the individual must be cognizant of what information can be shared with whom.

The person will be responsible for working with the provincial chair and regional vice-chairs — assisting them in scheduling, troubleshooting and various appeals-related issues that arise. The person also books hearing rooms, answers public inquiries regarding the appeal process, does follow-ups on appeals, checks document submissions to ensure they exhibited properly, files appeal packages, does scanning and photocopying and creates and uploads scheduling or returned letters.  The chair and vice-chairs are appointed by the Minister so the position requires the ability to build strong working relationships while maintaining a professional demeanor.

To be successful for this position, the applicant should have some government experience as well as be an experienced Administrative Support person in a higher level capacity, and/or have experience working with a committee/board.

 The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:15 am to 4:30 pm.  Hourly rate is $22-25 per hour plus 4% vacation pay and statutory holiday pay after 30 days.  As a temporary employee, you will be paid on a weekly basis.
