Communications Assistant and Fund Development – FILLED

This position reports to the Communications & Fund Development Coordinator, and requires a mix of skills to both support and lead on a number of communications tasks and projects.

To be successful for this position, you must be organized, independent, who is tech savvy and possesses outstanding written and verbal communication skills.  Must be able to manage social media, and web presence and are a team player who is willing to help out when and where it’s needed and can adapt to changing priorities.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotion of the Library’s programs for adults, teens and children, through the production of the Library’s monthly newsletter, web content, marketing materials and liason with the local media.
  • Planning of special events, such as the Library’s presence at the annual Lifestyle Expo Festival.
  • Communication of new Library services and resources through the Library’s website, newsletter and other means.
  • Support for the communications and advocacy work related to the new community branch library.
  • Record keeping and administration relating to the Library’s fund development initiatives.
  • Provide other general and administrative clerical support if needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Communications, marketing or PR qualification or several years experience of working in a communications role, ideally in the public sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create media releases and copy for newsletters and other marketing materials.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), including a working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Publisher.  Willingness to learn content software management in the role of web editor.  Ideally has knowledge of using Apple Mac.
  • An understanding of the print and broadcast media.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the drive to take the lead on projects and the confidence to work unsupervised.  The ability to plan ahead and encourage others to do the same.
