Underwriter – 2 Positions – Edmonton and Calgary (FILLED)

Role Summary:

This position is responsible for underwriting, processing and decisioning mortgage applications and pre-funding documentation and to contribute to the growth and retention of Third Party Lender portfolios. The key focus of this role is to establish strong relationships with assigned Brokers and/or Brokerages.

Key Responsibilities:

Reviewing Applications

¨                   Analyze information on application and Credit Bureau to ensure accuracy and completeness

¨                   Analyze information on application to ensure it meets Third Party Lending and insurer guidelines (CMHC & Genworth)

¨                   Contact the broker/client for additional information or clarification in order to decision the deal effectively

Credit Adjudication

¨                   Adjudicate information presented and address any discrepancies or inconsistencies

¨                   Document the deal to support recommendation or approval

¨                   Condition the deal in accordance with the approval

Reviewing Supporting Documentation

¨                   Review supporting documentation to ensure they satisfy the condition as required in the approval

¨                   Review supporting documentation to ensure they satisfy the Third Party Lending and insurer guidelines

¨                   Update the application, when required, ensuring the changes meet Third Party Lending and insurer guidelines

Service Broker/Borrower

¨                   Respond to questions or concerns from all clients in a timely manner to build/maintain relationships

¨                   Provide all clients with mortgage options to assist in making an informed decision

¨                   Maintain expected turnaround time on application and document review

¨                   Respond to questions and concerns received from clients via email, fax or phone within 2 hours of receipt to ensure timely and        accurate completion of each mortgage transaction

Broker Communication & Relationship Management

¨                   Advise Broker of Lending Guidelines to assist them in advising their client of the best mortgage solution

¨                   Provide alternative mortgage solutions, where possible, when the application or documentation does not meet Lending Guidelines

¨                   Follow up with Broker on all issued commitments in order to increase funding ratio

¨                   Promote the Lender in an effort to grow their portfolio

¨                   Communicate to Director or Lender sales team any knowledge or suggestions to aid in the continuous improvement of the business

Knowledge Assessments

¨Complete all required Knowledge Assessments with a passing grade

Specifications Required for the Role:

Education/Experience:

College Diploma ¨

 Two years underwriting experience or related experience in an Origination environment

Certifications/Designations Required

¨                   Completion of Mortgage Agent course to satisfy provincial regulatory requirements

¨                   Completion of internal audit’s credit adjudication process

Language Used in the Role

 English

Skills/Knowledge:

¨                   Knowledge of Real estate and covenant assessments, legislation and land title systems in all provinces preferred

¨                   Knowledge of Legislation (e.g. Mortgage Act) regarding risk related mortgage law preferred

¨                   Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel

¨                   Ability to negotiate effectively with intermediaries

¨                   Ability to understand financial statements and assess financial viability

¨                   Exceptional oral and written communication skills

¨                   Excellent organizational and time-management skills

¨                   Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment

¨                   Strong analytical and problem solving skills

¨                   Proven ability to foster strong relationships

¨                   Strong customer service skills.
